The Use of Bioinformatics and Genetic Data Analytics for Criminal Justice
Main Article Content
Abstract
In recent years, the genomics field has experienced a transformational revolution due to advances in highthroughput sequencing technologies. The ability to generate massive amounts of genome data has launched an era in which bioinformatics and big data analytics play a decisive role in unraveling the complexity of genomes. Modern criminal justice systems are based on state and local crime laboratories and the large legal science community adopts new DNA technologies to solve the toughest active and cold cases. The aim of this paper is to discuss the capabilities of the latest advances in bioinformatics in the field of forensic science. The study explains how digital-based bioinformatics plays a role in forming new methods to integrate with digital criminal law. We also discussed how bioinformatics will address privacy rights issues, such as large-scale integration of criminal databases. In this area, the development of national and international control mechanisms is urgent in order to create the optimal balance between maintaining the confidentiality of public data and complying with legal and ethical standards.
