Abstract

In the age of global communications, data and information access has become crucial elements in the criminal justice system, and investigations need to evolve digitally in order to remain effective. The collection of digital evidence from computers, networks and storage media has become a vital weapon against various types of software and hardware attacks and prohibited threats. The acquisition, analysis and reporting of digital evidence depends on the nature of the crime scene, the type of available evidence and the digital legal instruments used. This paper suggests that cybersecurity should be considered as another interest to balance when constraining digital investigative technology. Since there are loads of data and certain digital evidence encountered, digital criminal investigators can use different types of digital criminal techniques and tools. On the other hand, the accumulation of digital activities using different types of digital devices has intensified and complicated the process of analyzing and cleaning target data. The security measures for legitimate piracy should also include a specific regulation of technical instruments used to safeguard cybersecurity. This discussion on digital criminal justice is an integral part of a series of general research designed to clarify the complexity of information security in the outlined context.
